About the Opportunity:
Small research oriented machine shop looking for an Experimental Machinist to perform machining related duties to include design, construct, adjust, or repair specialized scientific instruments, maintain all equipment and follow all safety regulations. Minimum of five years experience as an Instrument Maker / Machinist in a Research and / or Development environment to include; experience with machining all standard metals and plastics to close tolerances.

Responsibilities:

Must be flexible to changing requirements of the job and be able to interact with University faculty, staff, students and coworkers.
Job Requirements

Possess superior machining skills to be able to fabricate fixtures and components to close tolerances from drawings, sketches or verbal instruction.

Minimum five years experience with Bridgeport Milling machines, Harding Tool Room lathe, Horizontal / Vertical band saw, Surface grinding and associated feeds and speeds

Minimum five years experience with CNC milling and lathe, setup and operation and the related software. Prototrak milling and lathe experience is a plus

Minimum three years experience with Solidworks CAD software and or Camworks software programs is a plus.

Must possess personal basic machine shop tools, to be used at work on a daily basis.

Basic experience with soldering and brazing a variety of metals.

Must be a self starter and work with minimum supervision.

This position would often handle loads up to 50 pounds, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling.

This position involves making repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time.

Qualifications:

Required: High school diploma plus two years technical college.

Combination of experience and education will be considered. Experience Minimum of 5 years hands on experience in a Model shop/Experimental machining environment. Competencies are required knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the job successfully.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred: Trade school certification for a toolmaker or machinist program
