Job Summary:
The Engineering Laboratory Machinist is responsible for the efficient operation of the Project Development Lab (PDL) and provides expert support to students and faculty in the design, development, and fabrication of engineering projects. This role involves the operation and programming of CNC equipment, fabrication of parts and assemblies, inventory management, and fostering a conducive learning environment in the PDL.

  • Provide guidance and support to students and faculty in designing, developing, and fabricating engineering projects.
  • Sets up and operates all machines and equipment in the Project Development Lab (PDL), including programming, setup, and operation of a wide variety of CNC equipment.
  • Fabricate parts and assemblies of varying complexity for coursework, student projects, and research projects.
  • Assesses and maintains tool room and stockroom inventories
  • Compiles and maintains technical literature for student reference.
  • Engage in regular professional development activities to stay updated with industry trends and advancements.
  • Assists with laboratory demonstration setup.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill the general duties and responsibilities outlined above.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and faculty.


Preferred qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Significant experience with prototype, model, or tool & die fabrication.
  • Five years of machinist experience.

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
