Position Description
Responsible for operating machine tools such as mill and lathe to produce precision metal parts. Assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts into sub-units or complete units. Uses blueprints, design sketches, and CNC coding to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.

Major/Essential Functions
Machine various parts and apparatus necessary for teaching and research from machine drawings and/or verbal description. Assist in the design, fabrication, modification and/or repair of equipment and experimental apparatus. Assist in the design/modification and/or repair of Physics educational demo equipment. Responsible for all machine work required to accomplish the above. Maintain shop equipment. Use blueprints, design sketches, verbal description and CNC coding to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product. Must be safety oriented and remain current in all safety training as required by Texas Tech University.

Required Qualifications
Completion of high school or the equivalent. Four to six years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Proficient in (CAM) Computer Aided Manufacturing software. Proficient in CNC programming, setup and operation of CNC mills, lathes and laser cutters.
